Washing and care Merino Wool
🧶 CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LilleMiriam Merino Wool (not superwash treated)
Merino wool is a living, self-cleaning natural material that benefits from gentle care. Often, less care is best 🌿
🌬️ Airing – always the first choice
Air the garment regularly in fresh air, preferably outdoors in slightly humid conditions. This is often sufficient to freshen the garment and helps extend its lifespan.
🤲 Hand wash (recommended – most gentle)
Gently wash in lukewarm water, max 30 °C, using a wool detergent. Do not rub, wring, or stretch the garment while wet – allow the water to flow gently through the fibres.
! Garments with multiple colours: Do not leave the garment soaking in the first wash water, as excess dye from darker colours may transfer to lighter areas.
Gently squeeze out the water after washing and spin at a maximum of 800 rpm.
🧺 Machine wash (only if necessary)
Use a wool cradle motion at max 30 °C with low spin speed, max 800 rpm. Always wash the garment separately the first time – afterwards it may be washed together with other garments of the same wool quality.
We recommend not using a laundry bag, as this may create friction that can lead to felting.
🧴 Detergent
Always use a specialist detergent for wool, free from enzymes and bleaching agents. Avoid fabric softener – it can damage the wool fibres’ natural properties and cause the garment to lose its shape.
🧼 Stains
If stains occur, try to treat the stain locally using suitable detergents for wool or gentle stain removal. This often allows you to avoid washing the entire garment unnecessarily.
🌡️ Temperature – important!
Avoid large temperature differences between washing and rinsing. Sudden temperature changes may cause felting.
🌿 Drying
Lay the garment flat on a towel and gently reshape it to its original form. Never tumble dry, dry in direct sunlight, or place on or over heat sources.
🧼 Ironing and steam
Avoid ironing if possible.
If necessary: Use low heat and preferably steam, with a damp cloth between the iron and the garment. Do not press too hard.
📦 Storage
Store wool garments folded, not hanging. Protect against moths using, for example, cedarwood or lavender.
Merino wool is a natural material that reacts to heat, friction, and temperature changes. Even when following proper care instructions, unforeseen incidents may occur. We therefore cannot accept responsibility for felting or other changes resulting from incorrect washing, the use of incorrect wash programs, or unforeseen washing conditions.
